With the main mission of serving society through knowledge and education on a local, regional, and global level, UNL-FCSH is the Portuguese University with the best performance in the Horizon 2020 (Full-time Equivalent), one of the 21 best European universities under 50 years old (QS ranking) and the Portuguese Institution with the highest impact worldwide in terms of publications (Leiden Ranking). Member of several university networks, such as UNICA, YERUN, EUA, and CESAER, FCSH is the largest Portuguese Higher Education and Research Institution in the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities. It houses various mobility programs for faculty members, researchers, and students (Erasmus, Erasmus Mundus, Portuguese-Brazilian Santander University Scholarships, Council for International Educational Exchange, and Exchange Programmes with China). Providing cutting-edge research in different scientific areas, with 16 research units (14 of them are financed by FCT (Foundation for Science and Technology) of which 8 are ranked as “Excellent”, it has 80 pure and applied research projects funded under various national and international programs (Horizon 2020, Erasmus Plus, Marie Curie IRSES, Marie Curie EF and GF, Marie Curie ITN, ERC, REGIO, Cooperation, etc.).

​NOVA FCSH also coordinates the Jean Monnet OCEANID Chair and the UNESCO CIPSH Chair of Digital Humanities in Education. Within the scope of the Program Erasmus+: Active Citizenship Through Dialogue in Virtual Teacher Communities, NOVA FCSH has an extensive experience in development and training (both in teaching and research), providing graduate studies in several areas of knowledge such as M. Sc. in Education Studies, M Sc. in Musical Education in Elementary 
Education, M. Sc. in Teaching Philosophy in Secondary Education. Regarding research, it has 3 research groups in education and curriculum development (Education, Knowledge, and Culture [CICS.NOVA]; Teacher Education and Applied Language Studies [CETAPS], holder of UNESCO’s Chair on Digital Humanities in Education; and Reasoning and Argumentation Lab [IFILNOVA].
